I've travelled all (biked, scooter, bus etc..) through out the carribean islands, Belize, Honduras, Panama, costa rica (bike raced la ruta x 3 https://racelaruta.com/), many places in mexico, Guatemala (construcasa.org), Spain, Portugal, Columbia, etc... I've never had any real encounters beside a knife fight between two homeless people in Belize and someone chasing down someone in jamiaca with a machete then his car - that's a wild and crazy place.

Had a gun pulled on me while biking in the Gatineau park, just a random attack then a week later another attack.
Had a crack addict jump in my car while I got into my car asking for money.
Tried to rescue someone burning downtown as they were on fire etc..
If I open the paper there are at least 3-4 shootings a week now. At least 2-3 deaths a week on the highways etc...

I think crime is everywhere esp if one goes looking for it. I use the 80/20 rule, 80% of people are good people, 10% lose their mind from time to time, 10% are made up of 5% brain dead people, 5% that just don't give a damn (low empathy low compassion) those I fear the most
