Martes de ZIHmulacro
Be aware that this Tuesday at 11:30 A.M. there will be an Earthquake Drill (Simulacro) in several states including Guerrero, so don't be alarmed when people's SkyAlert app goes off and they start filing outside. You don't have to participate if you don't want to.
This Monday morning waves from the mar de fondo event had washed over most of the downtown beach, and they made Playa La Madera mostly unusable. The pier at Playa Linda was closed by the Capitanía del Puerto, so the restaurants at Isla Ixtapa didn't do any business today. And our practically brand-new municipal pier is literally crumbling apart from not being anywhere nearly as well-built as its predecessor. The waves are arriving at between 1.6 to 2.3 meters high, and they're expected to continue at least for the next 72 hours. One of the water taxis got swamped in front of Capricho del Rey early this morning, and another got swamped in front of the downtown beach.
The nights are slowly warming up, and sleeping under a sheet is now optional unlike the cool nights of the past several months. The ocean water temperature never really cooled down this year like it usually does, possibly related to the El Niño/La Niña effect, but it could also mean early rains. If so, let's hope they aren't torrential rains.
Remember that next weekend is another extra-long weekend, and we're expecting the folks who had to work through the Semana Santa vacation period. Thursday May 1st is an official holiday for Día del Trabajador, and many people, schools and businesses will simply close the following Friday as well, and then Monday May 5th schools are closed for Cinco de Mayo, so this could be a nice little boon for local businesses.
For traditional lodging with a distinct flavor of old Zihuatanejo, I highly recommend Bungalows Pacíficos. Comfortable and with a wonderful view, this small iconic Zihuatanejo bayfront vacation lodging is located in La Madera and features 6 suites and a small house, all with one bedroom with a king-size bed, air conditioning, kitchen, and terrace. The suites also have two single beds, and the small house has a twin-size bed for family or friends. They have direct access to the waterfront and are within easy walking distance of many excellent restaurants as well as downtown.

Al amanecer se vio que el oleaje por el mar de fondo alcanzó más de la mitad de Playa Principal durante la noche en la bahía de Zihuatanejo.
