We awoke to a nice light soaking rain this Wednesday morning in Zihuatanejo. A perfect way to start the day! It brought the temperature down and made the air even more fragrant with the smell of wet ground and lush vegetation.

I was quite angry to see a note in today's local news about the capture of a tiny 50 cm baby cocodrilo that had found refuge in La Boquita canal. Some idiot in the municipal government apparently ordered Protección Civil to trap it, and they did, stepping on its tiny head in the process. It's a miracle if it survived. For generations small crocodiles have sought refuge there from the larger crocodiles and they've never bothered anyone, but these local idiots in our anti-ecological government keep removing them and putting them with the larger ones. A cycle of stupidity by whoever reports the crocodile in the canal and whoever gives the order to trap and remove it. It's infuriating to see our local flora and fauna suffering so much from greed and ignorance, the 2 human traits Stephen Hawkings said would one day bring about the end of the world.

Not much tourism around. The downtown beach wasn't very busy, though the few people who were on it today certainly got their money's worth. Most of the waterfront and downtown restaurants were empty or had very few people this evening. Only El Cafecito and La Porteña were over half full. The usuals.
