taxi reality

Too many people seem to be missing the point. Things to keep in mind please:
1. there is no problem for tourists taking a taxi
2. the problem is for those of us here who have our own vehicles. When we take friends in our cars, especially if a Mexican takes foreign friends in his/her car, the taxi drivers feel those passengers should be taking taxis and protest to the driver of said car
3. this has gone on here of years and evidently goes on in many other places in our world, including the US and some places in Europe. There is no violence. They are just protesting- yes, in a way that really does not help them nor anyone else
4. this has happened frequently in the past several years and most of you never knew anything about it. Heck, I had never heard of taxi problems in Zihua before 3 weeks ago. I had heard about airport taxi issues, but not this stuff.
5. the airport taxis are NOT the ones protesting. Yes I have heard that there have been problems in the past with airport taxis, but I personally have never experienced a problem in that area, so cannot comment. However, there is no present issue with the taxis at the airports.

This morning II met with Francisco Rivera, director of tourism here in Zihua, at the request of our mayor, Eric Fernandes. Of course they are not impressed with the taxi drivers, and are embarrassed because of their actions, but in order to take action they need documentation, so are advising us to take photos if there is ever another problem, and give them to tourism so they can take some action. Also, Francisco says if anyone is blocked, to call the police and they will break it up. Again, this does not really concern the tourists. This is information directed more at those of us who have vehicles here.

I really hope this information helps people to stop fretting and panicking about something that is just not an issue for tourists. Please folks- just come to Zihua and enjoy your vacation.
