¡MUCHAS FELICIDADES A TODOS LOS MARIACHIS EN HOY, SU DÍA!

Did anyone feel the temblor this morning? A 4.2 whose epicenter wasn't far from La Unión. Though I felt the tremble, I wasn't sure until I saw my earthquake detector: my glass of water with the water jiggling.

These cool mornings are sure wonderful to wake up to! But the lack of tourists not so much. Zihuatanejo continues awaiting tourists whom it appears simply aren't coming this year. There continue to be cancellations by U.S. citizens, and while there are quite a few Canadians around, since they stay longer they are more frugal in their spending and don't help the local shops as much. Locals have been trying for years to adjust to tourism with reduced purchasing power, but since our population keeps growing, so does the lack of sustainability of our tourism industry. I've been clamoring for decades to diversify the regional economy. I suspect it'll be a few more years before some desperate politician finally gets the same idea. Unlike locals, I've seen this movie before in Florida when tourists stopped travelling for one reason or another, and city officials in numerous coastal communities saw the need to attract industries to bring income to their communities.

Whale sightings continue increasing in frequency along our coast. Folks are posting lots of photos and videos in social media. My longtime friend Ramón Olea of the panga Oleaje is one of the many local captains trained and certified to give whale watching tours on his vessel. I highly recommend his services.

[image]Centrally located and very affordable, Condo Serenidad #2 is a 1-bedroom condo overlooking Playa La Madera in Zihuatanejo that offers many comforts to make you feel at home on your vacation. It enjoys an extremely lovely view of the beach and bay, and with the large picture window open, it has a very open-air feel and receives refreshing breezes through the palm trees in front. This vacation rental condo has a full kitchen, Wi-fi, A/C, and cable TV as well as a pool on the property and 24-hour security. Easy walking distance to many restaurants as well as downtown shopping.

No cancellations here, we are coming down this Saturday for 2 weeks! Our annual trip and nothing could deter us, not even a stupid new POTUS. My wife's best friend is coming also for 2 weeks, her annual trip and a visitor for about 60 years now!

Rob, not for lack of trying!

I miss the old daily United direct flights from Houston. I used to make that trip sometimes 3x a year.

That 2.5 hour flight has now turned into multiple layovers and/or changing planes and flying a regional airline.

I will be in town this summer, still not sure how but I will. United did start a direct beginning this summer but they only fly out on Saturdays. That complicates things for me, being not yet retired.

Since DJT has threatened 25% tariffs against Canada,(and Mexico) as of Feb 1st many in leadership roles, including Trudeau, are suggesting that Canadians boycott the USA as a tourist destination. It would be a great time for Mexico to do some advertising in Canada. Our 2 countries ???????????????? need to be united against attacks on our countries!
