This Monday morning the so-called local Director of Ecología, known for lying about why 6 Washingtonian palms were cut down at Plaza Olof Palma during the last so-called "remodelling" of Zihuatanejo's downtown waterfront, among other shadiness, attacked and arrested a resident foreigner on Playa La Ropa and took his dog hostage for a hefty ransom. This happened BEFORE official working hours for the so-called beach guardians or whatever they're called, a time when for years people have walked their dogs as they do on other Blue Flag beaches without incident. But apparently someone influential wanted to target this handful of foreigners at La Ropa. People who pay taxes and who should be able to enjoy the right to enjoy the beach with their furry family members. I'm sorely tempted to stroll La Ropa with my dog and see what fool dares try to remove me or my dog. Mexican federal law guarantees our right to unfettered access to our beaches.

Unfortunately the foreigners now feel intimidated by this vengeful municipal government. I just feel indignant that such corrupt public officials would blatantly and stupidly continue to do things that run off foreigners who have invested in the Zihuatanejo community, people who pay taxes and who have the high purchasing power that our community needs its visitors and new residents have. So it looks like it'll end up being another crusade that I'm left to continue alone. "Lo único que necesita el mal para triunfar es que la gente buena no haga nada."

Just when we thought it was clear, another storm appears to our south that is expected to become a cat 1 hurricane named Erick by this coming Wednesday, and that should reach our part of the coast by next Friday. Never a dull moment in paradise! Please be sure to keep a close eye on the local weather forecasts.

[image]Centrally located and very affordable, Condo Serenidad #2 is a 1-bedroom condo overlooking Playa La Madera in Zihuatanejo that offers many comforts to make you feel at home on your vacation. It enjoys an extremely lovely view of the beach and bay, and with the large picture window open, it has a very open-air feel and receives refreshing breezes through the palm trees in front. This vacation rental condo has a full kitchen, Wi-fi, A/C, and cable TV as well as a pool on the property and 24-hour security. Easy walking distance to many restaurants as well as downtown shopping.

It looks like they have updated the forecast for Erick to be a category 2 when it makes landfall slightly south of Acapulco. If the path holds, it will be a tropical storm when it gets to Ixtapa/Zihua.

The other day, I asked a local where they go if a major hurricane comes our way. They shrugged their shoulders and said they didn't know where they would go. So, what is the protocol? Are they shelters in Ixtapa or Zihua? Or do people tend to stay in place and hope for the best?

Keep up-to-date about ciclones here: https://smn.conagua.gob.mx/es/pronosticos/avisos/aviso-de-ciclon-tropical-en-el-oceano-pacifico

We have also been using an app called Windy (not NOAA) but it has been really accurate with the weather so far this year. The logo is a maroon circle with two backwards white J's (to look like wind I suppose.)

Find this year's temporary shelters here: https://refugiostemporales.guerrero.gob.mx/

Stay safe!
