The heat wave continues to bake our region, and the rains continue to elude us. This Saturday morning it was hot and humid early, eventually reaching around 36°C, hotter around areas of large flat cement surfaces, like the downtown plazas and Paseo del Pescador. Farmers with corn crops are complaining that their crops are dying from lack of rain. It's affecting business in downtown Zihuatanejo where shopkeepers are anxious since the vacation season is coming to an end. Families are already trying to save up to buy school supplies for their kids, so that typically means fewer vacationers and less spending by those who do take a vacation at this late date.

Overall, the summer vacation season has been a big disappointment, as was the Semana Santa vacation period. The foolish policies and wasteful spending by our mayor aren't helping. One thing that keeps people from coming here is the unsafe, extremely poorly maintained highways. Another is the Blue Flag rules. For folks with the purchasing power we need, usually retirees, it's the lack of a decent modern hospital. And of course the disappearing local character being buried under cement isn't helping a damn thing, and it's noticeably increased the ambient temperature. I keep thinking the politicians can't ruin our bay, but then they start pouring rocks into it and screwing with the currents and the beaches, such as happened at La Ropa and now the downtown beach at the pier.

There's a new mural at the zócalo. Some of you might like it. Lupita and I think it sucks and is an embarrassment to Zihuatanejo. Lots of people say it looks like kindergartners did it. It reminds me of something some friends and I did to a canvas one night doing mescaline in St. Croix back in the early 70's. It was so awful that we whitewashed it over the next day. B-)

Rain is in the forecast for early this Sunday morning and later in the afternoon. It sure would be welcome!

[image]Centrally located and very affordable, Condo Serenidad #2 is a 1-bedroom condo overlooking Playa La Madera in Zihuatanejo that offers many comforts to make you feel at home on your vacation. It enjoys an extremely lovely view of the beach and bay, and with the large picture window open, it has a very open-air feel and receives refreshing breezes through the palm trees in front. This vacation rental condo has a full kitchen, Wi-fi, A/C, and cable TV as well as a pool on the property and 24-hour security. Easy walking distance to many restaurants as well as downtown shopping. The mural sucks. Looks like a bunch of kids, not even talented ones, did it.
