Rob,
Can you tell me if one has an emergency is their a local number that you call for an ambulance?

Also what is the best Hospital/Medical Center in Zihua to go to if you have an eye emergency (retinal detachment) and need emergency laser surgery or surgery to repair emergently or if one has a cardiac event?

We simply don't have a lot of choices for hospital care. A poor 19-year old man was shot in the abdomen two days ago and every local hospital he was taken to rejected him for one reason or another. He died yesterday morning after being shuffled around among 4 or 5 hospitals. Locals are disgusted over this.

If you can get accepted then Hospital de Especialidades is usually the best place to go for most things. They've sure taken good care of my mother, and our grandchild was born there. Otherwise if you have time to plan ahead get the hell out of Zihuatanejo and go to a place with quality care such as Morelia or Mexico City or Guadalajara. This is NOT a good place to be ill.
