The real disaster for our climate

Is burning fields bad for the environment?

I support your view that open burning is bad for the environment. I don’t think we have a difference there.

Activities resulting in most (not all, but most) environmental damage is localized.

Activities resulting in most (not all, but most) environmental damage is visible at the time.

Activities resulting in most (not all, but most) environmental damage can be remediated within a few years, maybe a few decades.

It is not the case to say about open burning that “It is a DISASTER for our climate”.

Climate change is not localized, it is global. The actions we the relatively affluent take in our homes and on vacations wreak havoc now on the lives of poor people far away.

Climate change is largely “invisible” in the sense that although it is there, we either actively ignore it or just don’t notice it. How many of us think of the damage we know we are doing when we drive, or fly, or turn on that air conditioning? We ignore it instead, making it effectively invisible. How many people even know that contrails exacerbate global warming?

Contrails and climate change

Contrails, like cirrus clouds and unlike thicker, lower-altitude clouds, can allow a considerable amount of solar radiation to penetrate to the Earth's surface, warming the planet. Contrails can also trap that energy in the Earth's atmosphere, increasing the warming effect. As aviation is anticipated to grow in the coming years, there is concern about the increasing impact of contrails on climate change.

Our ignorance makes it invisible.

Climate change will not be remediated in a few years or a few decades. We are experiencing the global warming effects of actions decades ago. Our climate changing actions today will build on those errors of our parents and grandparents.

Or we can choose to make the hard decisions to sacrifice today for our children, our grandchildren, and those not yet born.

“It is too bad education has not reached this part of the world.”?

I suggest it is too bad that eduction is not changing behaviours sufficiently in “our part of the world”. We look in the mirror but we refuse to see the real source of the disaster of climate change.

We don’t need to blame the “uneducated” elsewhere. We need to act in accordance with our own education.
