The evil genius of Murdoch and Roger Ailes is that they realized early on that most voters make their decisions below the belt, something Democrats have yet to learn. Endless propaganda, lies, gaslighting, and outright bullshit by right-wing media gives a tingle upside the leg to their highly suggestive viewers and keeps them addicted and bubble-wrapped in their cozy fantasy world. As long as Fox and Newsmax continue to spew their garbage I see no way out of this mess. Perhaps the best we can hope for, if we survive this Trumpian dystopia, is a kind of soft autocracy, the Singapore model, where at least Things Get Done but at the expense of civil rights, human rights, the Bill of Rights, and free and fair elections, all would-be quaint, archaic notions. And that's the best we can hope for.
