Chikungunya & Dengue

Are you sure that it is to be a 900 bed hospital? That seems extremely large for an area the size of Zihuatanejo.

Population of the Municipality is over 100,000. And recently at least 30% had Chikungunya.

30,000 cases? At least 30,000 cases of chikungunya over the past 6-12 months in Zihuatanejo de Azueta??
Either there's a decimal point error, or we better plan on bringing down a whole case of repellent.

Most cases go unreported, and government stats are simply unreliable. Though I believe Tess is exaggerating, most of my neighbors have had Chikungunya. We had all the windows, doors and other openings in our home totally screened to increase the protection for our family. The government's fumigation efforts have been a sad joke at best. I don't believe they have passed by our home since the beginning of July.

The fortunate thing about Chikungunya and Dengue is that since they are mosquito-borne diseases the incidences tend to be concentrated in areas where the mosquitoes and people are infected, meaning they tend not to be affecting the hotels and tourist areas since folks with the diseases generally stay home and the mosquitoes that infected them generally aren't located near the tourist lodgings. It initially swept through downtown Zihuatanejo about 4 or 5 months ago, but I haven't heard of any neighbors coming down with either disease since that time, while the folks in the outlying neighborhoods and in the sierra are still reporting cases.
